For years now the tag team division has been in complete disarray in the WWE. Mid-card singles wrestlers have been aimlessly thrown together in order to keep the tag team division alive. This plan has worked in the past on occasion, the best example being the Roadogg and Billy Gunn, two wrestlers who were going absolutely nowhere, were teamed up, and became the legendary New Age Outlaws, far surpassing anyone’s expectations. However this is very much the exception.

The WWE Tag Team Division

However WWE management seems to have little patience these days and as soon as they create a tag team they disband them. Most of the time they don’t even bother given them a name. A few years ago John Morrison and The Miz were thrown together in a New Ages Outlaws style. Fortunately they gelled and became a successful tag team, but the WWE invested so little interest in the league that they didn’t even give them a collective name. In the end, they got over it in spite of WWE management, not because of them.

Hopefully, by putting the four belts (it was a sensible decision to unify the titles as having them separate diluted the division even further) on Kidd and Smith, the WWE are perhaps indicating that the tag team scene may enjoy a renaissance.
